We received a lovely warm welcome at The George while on our C2C hike. We were very grateful to be given a spot on which to pitch out little tent. The meals were delicious and we enjoyed the warm atmosphere and the nice escape from the gale outside.

Stayed whilst doing the coast to coast. Very friendly, the lasagne in the evening was great and they laid out a large wonderful continental breakfast. The local couple running the hotel are doing a great job. Only downside was losing the quiz 😁.

Orton has been my favourite village along the C2C and the George has been a highlight. Very friendly hosts, best pub food. Thank you!

The George Hotel at Orton may look a bit tired on the outside, but its inside that counts! I got a very friendly welcome from the Landlord when I checked in. I had a lovely room with a comfy bed. The evening food was very good quality - you can't beat local produce! Nice local beers at the bar Breakfast was simple, but good. Nice thick bread for toast! The place looks like it was built as a Hotel, rather than being a Pub with the upstairs rooms converted to take guests. Thoroughly recomended, I'll be using it again on my next trip to that area.

Lovely inn on the coast to coast route - Neil is a wonderful host and his music choices are beyond rebuke. Room was comfortable and the shower was great. Food looked good - manageable portions for a reasonable price, with a good choice available. For those backpacking, camping is also available in the beer garden, with facilities available during the night across the road at the village hall.

We stayed at Nell Gwyn Cottage, Orton Hall. The Hotel Pub was a 7-minute walk away. So thought we'd pop in for bite to eat. Well, what a pleasant surprise! So, a huge shout out to the wonderful folks in The George Hotel! The pub food (and the Ale) was some of the best we’ve had in the UK! We ended up going there all three nights we stayed in the area! We watched the EUROS and enjoyed the great atmosphere watching England get to the semi-finals! Overall, a very memorable experience. Thanks! We’ll see you next visit!

On the C2C they were kind enough to offer part of their beer garden to pitch a small tent. Old school hospitality. Had a lovely dinner & breakfast in good company.

Parked up down the road in our camper and came for a wander. At first glance it didn't look very lively but once we came in we were pleasantly surprised. Just had a couple of drinks. Staff were lovely. They do serve food pizza burger and curry was on the menu but we didn't stay for food. Definitely worth a pop in.

This pub had recently changed owners and my Expedia booking had been lost in the handover. However, Neil and Angela very kindly agreed to honour my 2023 booking price of £90, rather than the 2024 price of £130. This review is therefore based on £90 per night which was the 2nd cheapest of the 17 accommodations I booked for the C2C. Neil and Angela, were great and sorted out all and any issues. The upstairs room was a good size with two nice beds with clean bed linen – we slept well. There was a walk-in shower. Dinner was at the bar and was average pub grub. Breakfast was a very nice ‘continental’ selection – chesses, meats, breads etc. A great stay, if a little chaotic as Neil and Angela settle in to running the business.

Our welcome after walking from Shap on the CtC was very warm and friendly. Neil and his partner are a lovely couple who go out of their way to make their guests feel welcome. They are keeping the village pub alive with a wonderful attitude. The atmosphere in the bar was upbeat with a few locals enjoying a drink. The Hunter's chicken was, in my opinion, the best meal of the CtC so far. It was very reasonable price wise too. The breakfast offered many different fresh fruits, yogurt, cereals and a variety of pastries. The coffee was good quality too. All in all a very pleasant stay and we'd recommend staying here to anyone.
